Biography
Eve Gilbert is a Grade 7 student living in Collingwood, Ontario. When not trudging through ponds, exploring local trails and wading in streams, Eve enjoys sailing, swimming, singing, theatre and curling. Eve is an aspiring environmentalist and finds interest in nearly all things living or dead. Her love for the family cottage and the surrounding environment has inspired her current science fair project as she explores alternative solutions to invasive aquatic life. Eve looks forward to the opportunity of participating in the Canada Wide Science Fair!

Gardening With Aquatic Weed: Pest to Profit?

Abstract:To determine if the freshwater aquatic weed taken from Rondeau Bay is a viable, natural alternative to manufactured potting soil. Two samples from Rondeau Bay were taken. Top nutrients found in the aquatic weed samples were: Ammonium Nitrate, Kjeldahl Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. We averaged the nutrient measurements taken from the two samples. The nutrients helped germinating seed growth in the aquatic weed.
