| Jack - My name is Jack, and I am from the great city of Toronto. I enjoy being outside and spending time with my friends. As well I am interested in athletics. Such that I plan on going into kinesiology and building my career off that. That is, if I'm not successful in an athletic path. For the projects inspiration, I need to give my partner credit as he has an interest in psychology which led to the Stroop Effect. When thinking of what more I could've done, I believe conducting the tests we did on adults with different occupations would give us confident data. Occupations with higher and lower brain functions, such as working in a factory versus as a chemical engineer. Lastly, advice for others would be to work well as a team with your partner as when you don't, the project could fall apart. | | Ryan - Hi! My name is Ryan, from Toronto, Ontario. My project this year was my first science fair project ever, so I'm really excited to represent my city with it! I didn't expect to make it this far when I was in my planning phase, because I never really saw science as one of my stronger subjects—rather, I'd like to think that I excel in mathematics and language-based subjects. So, when my name was called along with my partner's during the award ceremony, I was ecstatic! However, the project itself wasn't incredibly well thought out, and the idea didn't come from a notebook filled with my life's worth of science fair ideas; almost all of it just came naturally once I saw the project I wanted to make. I found the idea just by thinking a lot about what I was interested in, and I looked to my surroundings to give me inspiration. Overall, the project and topic I chose were very interesting, and I feel like the entire stressful process was worth it, because of the discoveries and the new ideas I encountered. If you're thinking about entering a science fair, I would really recommend it! |

True Colours: Exploring the Science of the Stroop Effect

Different age groups were tested with variations of the Stroop task, to see whether age plays a factor in cognitive functions. Data showed that youth had more trouble with the task. Afterwards, adults with occupations of different brain function levels were tested, looking at possibilities of general practice quickening thought process. This proved to be true. |
