Jordan - My name is Jordan Fergani. I live in the Sudbury area where I attend Lo ellen park secondary school, in the intermediate division. We are so grateful to have one of the greatest communities to help us succeed. One of my hobbies out of school is debate and public speaking. I used this talent to become the prime minister of our Lo-Ellen Park intermediate wing. For the science fair, Our teacher told us to choose a topic that has impacted our world today. We checked CNN and found that a lady left her child in a car and her child experience heatstroke and died. We believe if she would've had a notification explaining that she has left her child, she could've saved her. We decided to create a device that can notify you when your car is at a dangerous temperature so we could save your child if you forget them. Plans for further applications include pitching our idea to car manufacturers like Chevrolet and installing this into the new edition of cars. The advice I would give is to choose a topic that doesn't just interest you, that relates to a global issue that people haven't acted on yet. | Edward - My name is Edward Xiong and I'm in grade 8 at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Sudbury. One of my interests is robotics which I've been involved in since grade 4. In grade 6, my robotics team won the Champion's Award at the Regionals level and went on to compete at the Provincial level. I was the lead programmer for the team. Also, my interests include graphic design, computer sciences and programming. I built a website for a consulting firm and competed in the Northern Gaming Design Challenge which was a competition to build a video game in 48 hours. My team competed against university students and I was the graphic designer. We were saddened to hear about deaths of children in hot cars in the news and thought about ways to prevent it. If parents had a reminder on their phone that their child was in a dangerous situation then they would immediately save their child. Possible next steps for the project include building an outer shell for the raspberry pi and pitching the idea to car manufactures. The advice I would give other students would be to investigate what you are passionate about. |
