Biography
YaWen Huang is a grade 11 student at Grant Park High School, who's interest and passion for neuroscience began in grade 9 upon approaching the lab of Dr. Gordon Glazner at the St. Boniface Albretchsen Research Centre. This interest has lead to the expansion of skills within, and outside of the lab. YaWen aims to contribute to the exploration of the pathology and mechanisms that occur in the brain in the circumstances of disease. Apart from the lab and science, YaWen enjoys spending time with friends and family, and creating art.

Secreted APPα as a Therapeutic for Diabetic Encephalopathy

Abstract:The insulin pathway is impaired in the case of diabetes, leading to negative effects in the brain. sAPPα overexpressing mice were used to determine its benefits. It was found to decrease toxic tau tangles, as well as the stress response that occurs in the neuronal tissue of diabetic mice. sAPPα was able to inhibit the pathological effects of diabetes in the brain.
