Biography
Hello, my name is Audrey Golsteyn, I am 15 years old and I am in grade 10. I was born in France, in Poissy, I moved to Canada in 2007. I have lived in Alberta in Lethbridge for 10 years. I go to Central Catholic High school. Art is one of my favorite passion. I also really like sports and science. I play violin, badminton, and do cross-country. Later, I think of becoming an architect or working in marine biology. This is the 7th year that I take part in the science fair and the third time that I am qualified for the national. Microbiology is one of the subjects that interests me the most. This year I was interested in one of the chemical molecules with antibacterial properties that harms our health. I was able to find molecules from natural products that could replace Triclosan. I believe that more students should take part in the science fair because it is an unforgettable experience in which we can discover new places, new ideas and make new friends across Canada.

A Substitute for Triclosan
Challenge:Discovery
Category:Intermediate
Region:Lethbridge
City:Lethbridge, AB
School:Catholic Central High School
Abstract:Triclosan is a molecule used in many everyday products for its antibacterial effect.Recently it has been found that this molecule causes grave health issues such as disrupting hormones etc... My purpose in this project was to find a possible replacement for Triclosan out of natural products. I have found an antibacterial activity in garlic and strawberry leaves that could lead to the replacement of Triclosan.
