Biography
My name is Kathryn Ross. I am 14 years old and I am a grade 9 honours student at Pearce Junior High school. I am involved with choir, drama, and the Techsploration program. I play a variety of sports such as hockey, volleyball, and cheerleading. Figure skating was one of my favourite activities for a number of years and I won several medals at various competitions. Now I take great pride in teaching younger skaters as a volunteer CanSkate coach for the Ice Crystals Skating Club. I joined hockey 2 years ago and this year was chosen for the Marystown Under-15 Girls All Star team which placed 3rd in the province. I attend private piano lessons and group guitar classes. I performed at the regional drama festival 2 years in a row, performed multiple times with the school choir, and have been a part of a few music festivals. I got the inspiration for my project because I see people using their phones while driving all of the time so I decided I was going to do my project on how this can be dangerous. I am very excited to be attending the Canada Wide Science Fair this year!

Abstract:This experiment investigated the impact cell phone use has on reaction time. This was done through a ruler drop test and a computer stop light test. Subjects were tested while texting, talking normally and talking on a speaker phone. In both tests subjects had the slowest reaction time while texting however all forms of cell phone use produced slower reaction times compared to control.
