Biographies
Sean - My name is Sean Giacobbe and I am a Secondary 5 student from Royal West Academy. I plan on going to university in the future but have not yet decided what field I would like to go into. I came up with the idea for this project after doing some research on corn and ethanol production and wanted to make the process more viable. The only advice I can give to anyone wanting to do a science fair project would be to do a project that interests you and to pursue your idea or vision.
Jaad - My name is Jaad Van der Wee; I was born and raised in Montréal. I currently attend Royal West Academy in my graduating year. My partner Sean Giacobbe and I had the pleasure of making it to the Canada Wide Science Fair in 2013 and are excited to return one last time before finishing high school. My favourite subjects include Math, Physics, and Chemistry. I enjoy playing sports like basketball and volleyball as a Wildcat, as well as outside of school where I play baseball and basketball. I strive to be a well-rounded, high achieving student. Though I may not know for sure what my future holds, I plan on pursuing my interests in sciences and maths. Medicine and engineering both interest me, yet only time will reveal which fuels me most. You must do what you love and love what you do, and I truly believe in that. Whatever I discover that to be, I will do it to my fullest potential.

The Root of Ethanol Production
Challenge:Resources
Category:Senior
Region:Montreal
City:Montreal West, QC, Kirkland, QC
School:Académie Royal West
Abstract:The experiment aimed to determine whether root vegetables, when grown in a designed environment could effectively be used to produce similar if not greater quantities of ethanol. The results demonstrated an interesting potential when producing ethanol in the designed system and environment, thereby saving valuable agricultural land whilst maintaining current ethanol production levels. Other applications of the design were also noted.
