| Tajko - My name is Tajko Redden and I've lived in Kugluktuk, Nunavut my whole life. All my life I've had an interest in Science and understanding how things work. Last year my friend Paul MacDonald and I presented our class Science project and made it to Kitikmeot Regionals. We were somewhat restricted to what the class had already done for the project, so this year we took the opportunity to make our own project ahead of time. Last year our class had decided to grow basil plants whose seeds had been soaked in food dye to see how they were affected. This year we wanted to think about how we could make our own project, fix errors we couldn't control before (and unintentionally create new ones) and research something less known and more relevant. Not many people are aware of the effects of the chemicals in tobacco or the difference between natural tobacco and commercial tobacco. My advice to anyone considering a project would be to do your best to think of something both new and relevant. Take every opportunity to utilize any available assistance and verify your facts, results,and methods of execution. | | Paul - We wanted to look into the effects of nicotine on the growth of living things using plants as a model. Next year we hope to run this experiment again making more exact measurements and having better controls. |
