Abstract:The Alberta floods of 2013 cost the Canadian government an estimated $6 billion. To find a more effective sandbag to reduce the devastating impact of floods, 3 types of sandbags in 3 formations were tested. It was found that applying a 2 mm coating of petroleum jelly to the outside of standard sandbags increased their rate of water retention by 336%.
