Region:Bay Area
City:Dundas, ON
School:St. Augustine E.S.
Abstract:This project evaluated environmental effects of landfilling fluorescent tubes. Two model landfills were created from a composter; one was contaminated with fluorescent tubes. Leachate was created through hydration. Tests were performed on the landfills and leachates. Fluorescent tubes contain mercury, which negatively affected the landfill and creates toxic leachate.
