Biography
My name is Abdullah Rashid and I am a grade 7 student at Ecole Van Walleghem School. I believe in excellence in academics and in sports. I play soccer and basket ball. I have participated in Manitoba Schools Science Symposium before and received high accolades. I am fascinated by the field of immunology. To me, immune system is like an army! An army defends a country and our immune system defends our body. I am looking into ways of boosting immune system. In future I would want to test effect of vitamin C on other functions of macrophages and on functions of other cells of the immune system. My advice to students is to follow your inquisitive nature, work hard and never settle for less than excellent.

Abstract:Macrophage (Big Eater) protects our body from infections by eating microbes and by producing bactericidal agents like nitric oxide.Vitamin C is an important nutrient with immune boosting abilities. Current study was carried out to understand the mechanism of immune boosting ability of Vitamin C. I found that Vitamin C acts as an immune booster by increasing the production of bactericidal agent nitric oxide from macrophages.
