Biographie
My name is Keaton McCann, I am 13 years old and I am a student at St. Stephen Middle School. I live in a small community on the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick with my parents and little brother. My interests include photography and videography, sports, camping and spending time with friends. My accomplishments include medals and trophies in various sports and I recently achieved a junior black belt in Okinawan karate. When I was 10 I was honored to earn the prestigious Judy McLay award. This is awarded to the student who ‘consistently displays qualities of perseverance and dedication to work’. Above all, I am a chicken farmer. My brother Kameron and I raise laying hens and we have a business called K&K Eggcellent Eggs. We sell our fresh farm eggs to our neighbors. We love our chickens and want them to produce the best eggs possible for our customers. This was the reason I explored the idea that increasing the protein in their diet may result in larger eggs. It worked! I think the best advice is a quote by Will Rodgers ‘the farmer has to be an optimist or he wouldn't still be a farmer’.

I Like Big Eggs... And I Cannot Lie

Sommaire:I wanted to see if my laying hens could safely produce larger eggs if I increased the protein in their diet. By feeding my chickens roasted peanuts daily over a four week period I discovered the average size of a dozen eggs increased by 6 grams. An increase of this amount changes the average size of an egg from LARGE to EXTRA LARGE!
