My name is John Berger and I am a grade ten student at Medicine Hat High School in Alberta. This is my second time attending CWSF, and my project this year is called: “A Perl Program for the Retrieval of Genomic Information”. The point of my project was to provide a method for the sequential download of multiple genome and protein sequences from Genbank. This download method is a feature that the database natively lacks, and without it the retrieval of information is rather tedious and time consuming. My interests include computer programming for game development and computer design for components and assembly. Some of my hobbies are karate, puzzles, and reading many books from various genres. I have been studying Shotokan karate for seven years, and I have achieved the level of brown belt. I am also a member of my school’s YES (Youth for Environmental Sustainability) club. After grade 12 I would like to study mechatronics, computer, or software engineering. I would encourage any students interested in science fair to find a fun idea that interests them. |
