Biographies
Alec - My name is Alec Scarabelli and I'm 15 years old. I am a trilingual student from the Netherlands. I have lived in St. Maarten for 11 years now and I'm attending the Caribbean International Academy. My favorite hobbies include competitive sailing and surfing. I have won many events through sailing such as the Heineken Regatta and I helm a variety of these boats. I got the inspiration for this project when we learning about climate change in science class and passing sewage contaminated waters everyday while driving to school. For further investigation, I plan to research and conduct experiments to see if any other unwanted substances can be removed from waste water.
Matthew - My name is Matthew Dookie and i am 15 years old. I am an academic student from the Netherlands Antilles. I have lived in St. Maarten for 12 years and i am currently attending the Caribbean International Academy. Sommaire:The process of bioremediation was used to decrease the concentration of phosphate in the solution. Chlorella samples were collected and mixed with a diluted solution of sodium phosphate at 4ppm to examine its effectiveness. There was an average decrease of 21.8% between immediately and after 10 days of experimentation. It is suggested that chlorella is an effective means to reduce phosphate levels in contaminated water.
