Biography
My name is Keagan MacEachern and im a grade 11 student at Riverview Rural High School. my post secondary plans consist of attending the RMC and studying either aeronautical engineering or aviation sciences. then to hopefully become a pilot in the RCAF. I have been doing science fair since grade 7 however this is really my second well done science fair. I choose to do this study because i wanted to expand upon my study from last year. Which was testing mussels filtration abilities in relation to their size and species. Im unsure if i will be doing science fair next year but i know if i do it will be something related to mussels. Advice i would give to others interested in science fair would be to seek help from others. Having a mentor was the best thing i could ever do for my self. They not only provided me a space to conduct my tests but they taught me several lessons along the way. they taught me things that i would have never have known and that i can use all throughout high School and Post secondary.

Freshwater Mussels on the Move: Adaptations for Survival
Challenge:Environment
Category:Senior
Region:Cape Breton
City:Dutch Brook, NS
School:Riverview High School
Abstract:My project compared the ability of three species of freshwater mussels to drought (rapidly dropping water levels) and predation. It's important to determine whether or not these mussels are capable of adapting because of the climate changing. Freshwater mussels are among the most endangered organisms in the world so its crucial to develop ways to protect them.
