Affecting Aging: Protection of cSOD-deficient Drosophila from Oxidative Stress
Division:Physical & Mathematical Sciences
Category:Intermediate
Region:Bay Area
City:Mississauga, ON
School:Appleby College
Abstract:The effects of caloric restriction and dietary antioxidant supplementation, using Vitamin E or Thymoquinone, were investigated in the SOD-deficient Drosophila for their efficacy in reducing oxidative stress. Eclosion lethality assays indicate that both interventions can rescue superoxide mediated developmental disorders in this fly, and may thus retard the aging process.
