Marin - My name is Marin Foulds, I am in Gr 7 and attend Kelowna Christian School, in Kelowna BC. Before moving to Kelowna 5 years ago my family spent 4 1/2 years living in Saudi Arabia. I enjoy reading, swimming, skiing and playing outside with my 3 younger brothers. When I am older I plan on attending UBC-Okanagan and learning to become some sort of engineer, most likely biomedical or civil. My family likes to go camping and when we do we always make cool stoves to cook our food on; and I thought of making a stove that could cook quicker than the other stoves we had. One of the stoves we made was called a rocket stove and it sounded cool so that is what we based our Spin Stove off of. Some advice I would give to someone doing the science fair is don’t leave everything for the last minute, especially if you have a group project. | Claire - My name is Claire Pasenau. I live in Kelowna, BC and I love to spend time outside with my family skiing, biking and hiking. My favorite sports are volleyball, basketball and highland dancing. I also play piano and flute. My partner Marin Foulds and I got the inspiration for our project on Spin Stoves when Marin's family went camping and used a rocket stove to cook their food. We already have plans for another prototype for our stove that will make the air spin on its own. We also want to go on to do better testing to track the emissions from the stove. My advice to other students is to do a project on something you are passionate about, have fun and start working on you project a long time before it is due. |

Défi: | Innovation | Catégorie: | Junior | Région: | Central Okanagan | Ville: | Kelowna, BC | École: | Kelowna Christian School | Sommaire: | We tried to make a stove that burned faster / more cleanly than a wood fire by adding a fan to increase air flow and spiral the flame. We added a thermoelectric generator to make electrical power to run the fan, so that the stove can power itself. Our innovation reduces soot and allows for faster heating, reducing the user’s exposure to harmful emissions. |
