Biographies
Kiera - In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, doing math, reading, sports, and writing. I would someday like to attend law school. This year, I wrote a Remembrance Day poem celebrating the lives of soldiers, which I entered into the Royal Canadian Legion winning first place twice and is currently competing at the next level. Winning the science fair is the best achievement I have received to date. For the inspiration for our project “Under Pressure”, Lily Mick and I relived the timed-test horrors in school. We noticed that it was nearly impossible to focus and concentrate when we could see the time counting down. Instead of paying attention to our test, we watched the clock. We wanted to find out if other people had the same issues to prove a point that the timer isn’t helpful while testing students. For further investigations I want to find answers to questions that I can’t find online or in a book. Some pieces of advice I would give to other students when doing a project is to be creative and persevere through the struggles and mishaps. Contenders should be confident while presenting data both orally and visually. Judges like confidence.
Lily - My hometown is Echo Bay, Ontario which is a small community outside of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. In school, I enjoy all sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, track and field, cross-country and more. My extracurricular activities include singing, dancing, playing hockey and ringette. When I am older, I would love to be a dentist or a lawyer because both jobs are of interest to me. In the past, I have received multiple awards for my sportsmanship and for my talent in singing. I enjoy travelling with my family and I am excited to experience New Brunswick for the very first time. My science partner, Kiera Pauze-Reid and I decided to do this project because when we were younger, we were exposed to stressful timed tests and we wanted to see if that stress applied to others. I am excited to be a part of the Canada Wide Science Fair so I can learn from other people's learning and bring it back to share with my classmates. My advice for anyone else doing these projects is to have a large sample size and do something that is of interest to you and is applicable to the real world.

Sommaire:We tested peoples' ability to remember a collection of images. Half of the 72 subjects saw a 1-minute timer while they studied the image. The other half was timed without their knowledge. We then analyzed the data to find out who performed better under pressure; those who saw the timer, or those who did not.
