Biography
My name is Jonathan Afowork. I am a 13 year old student at Aurora Academic Charter School in Edmonton, Alberta. I've been participating in school science fairs since Grade 4, and regional science fairs since Grade 6. I won the ACPA Rick Dillen Award in Grade 7 for my chemistry-based project. I also won a silver medal, the Genome Alberta Award, and the Alberta Society of Gastroenterology Human Biology Award this year, for my current biology-based project. Maintaining an excellent grade in academics is an important responsibility for me and some hobbies of mine include playing basketball and playing the piano. In the future, I'd like to improve on current knowledge of oncology, and would like to research new and unknown oncolytic agents. My advice for other students trying to do a project would be to try to not do an idea that's been done or tested before, but to instead think of your own new solutions to society's everyday problems. I believe that us youth are the keys to the future, and if all we do is replicate ideas from the past, we can never make any true advances in society.

Abstract:Through reviewing previous experimental results, a novel anti-tumor treatment that utilizes a combination of anti-cancer agents was developed, in which today’s scientists can effectively cure skin cancer, specifically melanoma, without the use of other means of therapy and their undesirable side effects. Furthermore, possible challenges to the success of the therapy were addressed and tackled.
