Biography
My name is Keaton Shorting and I am from Little Saskatchewan First Nation. I am 15 years old and in grade 9. My hobbies include playing video games, going for walks and listening to music. I won 3 gold medals 3 years in a row at the Manitoba First Nation Science Fair held annually in Winnipeg. This year I won gold again and qualified for a spot in the Canada-Wide Science Fair to be held in Regina, Saskatchewan in May this year. One memorable trip that I had was my participation to the First Nation and Inuit Youth National Science Camp held in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario last summer 2016, only 40 students were selected nation-wide and I am very lucky to be one of them. I became interested in this project when I saw a former student doing a project focused on lake/river water testing. This inspired me to do a science project focused on testing the tap water quality in my community bearing in mind the effect of the Spring Flood of 2011. For further investigation I would like to test most of the houses in the community that have been affected by the flood.

Challenge:Environment
Category:Intermediate
Region:Manitoba First Nations
City:Gypsumville, MB
School:Little Saskatchewan School
Abstract:In this research, I considered tap water samples from selected households in my community - Little Saskatchewan First Nation, bearing in mind the effect of the Spring Flooding of 2011. My project is focused on pH, chlorine, hardness, copper, iron testing and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) to find out if the tap water quality of the households at Saskatchewan FN is safe for human consumption.
