Biography
Hi, my name is Johnathan. I live in Arviat NU. I am a grade 8 student at the QMS. I enjoy fishing gardening and geology. I got the idea for my project “window parka” because I live in a very cold winter climate where heat in the house escapes from doors and windows, which means heating bills can be high. I wanted to see if I can prevent the heat loss from the windows so I designed the window parka. There are many ways I can improve this project and a couple of them is to use an anemometer, and a wind direction meter. The other is to control the wind by using a garage that has no heat so the wind can’t blow inside.

Abstract:I was trying to determine the heat loss from windows and how to prevent that from happening in the extreme cold of the north. I tested 4 window treatments: window with no treatment; window with commercial grade plastic; window with standard shutters; and window parka treatment. I found that the window parka performed the best at preventing heat loss thus reducing heat bill costs.
