Biography
My name is Reagan DeGruchy and I'm a grade 12 student at East Antigonish Education Academy in Nova Scotia. I love to play sports and spend a lot of my time doing so. Soccer and softball being my favorite. I am very involved in my school and community. I am currently part of my school's student council and the yearbook committee. In my community, I coach soccer and volunteer with various organizations. School is very important to me and I take pride in my academics. Last year I was the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's award, as well as the outstanding student award. Next year are to attend StFX University for a bachelor of science in human kinetics. I'm still not sure what I want for a career in the end. Physiotherapy has interested me as well as medicine. One notable experience I have had is my trip to Ecuador. In August of last year, I went to Ecuador on a Me to We volunteer trip. We helped build a classroom as well as a sustainable water system. This experience is what sparked my interest in the water crisis in our world, and my science fair topic idea.

Abstract:For my project, I wanted to find out how well an oyster filters water. Oysters are filter feeders and I wanted to see if they have the potential to filter water enough to be considered drinkable. I find this topic very interesting because it is very relevant in our world today.
