Biographie
Hi! My name is Anika Achari and I am a grade 10 IB student at Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta. In addition to being an avid science and research enthusiast, I enjoy music and have a passion for playing the piano. I am extremely fond of both classical and jazz musical styles. I am also an active speech and debate participant and an Indian classical vocalist. My research is focused on the environmental problems of emerging contaminants in drinking water and possible novel engineering solutions to mitigate the potential risks they pose. The idea for this project came to me while visiting India and witnessing firsthand the poor water quality even in urban areas. I had the honour and opportunity of conducting my research at the University of Calgary, where I had the chance to further my passion for science and technology with tremendous support and help from mentors, friends and family! For all you aspiring scientists out there, success is the result of staying relentless. Remember, that failure must be embraced in order to learn and grow!

Innovative Technology to Remove Emerging Contaminants from Drinking Water
Défi:Innovation
Catégorie:Intermédiaire
Région:Calgary Youth
Ville:Calgary , AB
École:Sir Winston Churchill High School
Sommaire:Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) are being increasingly detected in municipal drinking waters. This study is aimed at evaluating the toxicity of a particular CEC; bisphenol A on the growth and differentiation of animal cells and on seed germination. Furthermore, a novel integrated water treatment system has been developed. Test results indicate that the water system degrades and eliminates CECs from drinking water.
