Biography
Syni Solanki is a Grade 9 student at St. Francis Xavier Secondary School, Mississauga, Ontario. Syni is 14 years old and loves math and science and wishes to pursue a career in medicine. She volunteers at the pool teaching kids how to swim, at her Church, and with family literacy programs. Syni plays the clarinet in concert band and is in Grade 9 piano. She also loves to listen to music. Syni's hobby is reading and her favorite series are Throne of Glass and Keeper of the Lost Cities. Syni got the inspiration for her project after attending a research program at University of San Diego for cancer biology. Her plans for future investigations involve researching a therapy for ovarian cancer cells. A piece of advice that she would give other students thinking about doing a project is that no matter what, keep on trying. Even if you feel like others are judging or are in disbelief, don't give up. It will all work out in the end, and you'll see you are capable of many more things.

Analyzing Therapeutic Effect of B.bacterium & L.bacillus on Ovarian Cancer Cells
Challenge:Health
Category:Intermediate
Region:Peel
City:Missisauga, ON
School:St. Francis Xavier S.S.
Abstract:Pathogens such as Chlamydia trachomatis and Mycoplasma genitalium have been proven to contribute to ovarian cancer. Beneficial microbes Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium suggest possible therapeutic approaches. Strains of Lactobacillus were utilized on models of pathogens. Ovarian cancer cells were treated with a coalition of Bifidobacterium. As this was a pilot study, minimal replicates were conducted. These results show promise, however, further research is warranted.
