| My name is Adam Khan, I am in 7th grade at Mentor College, Mississauga, Ontario. I play drums, bass guitar, and piano. I am on the school basketball and rugby teams and vice president of our Student Union. I play Judo competitively at the orange belt, and I volunteer at the local food bank regularly. I also travel with my dad to developing countries and volunteer for medical missions. My hobbies include reading comics, watching basketball, art, and playing my instruments. My career plans when I grow up is to be a physician or an engineer. I want to make a difference in the world and the future is all about technology and innovation. I am inspired to help prevent infections in the developing world by creating inexpensive and effective solutions for hand sanitization that is also environmentally friendly. Bioethanol is perfect for this. In the future, I plan on creating a company that produces affordable organic hand sanitizers using the local community resources. My advice to students is to pick a project that makes a difference in improving the lives of people and creates a positive impact in the world - use your imagination and always be inspired! |

Going Bananas for Clean Hands

The bioethanol was produced by fermenting bananas. Human saliva was used as bacterial source to which each different type of hand sanitizer was applied in a petri dish. The bioethanol produced was equally effective in killing bacteria as Purell and 70% alcohol. |
