Abigail Stanton is a grade 9 student from Digby Regional High School in Digby, NS. She is an active volleyball, basketball, cross country, and track and field athlete; plays piano; loves being outside working; is passionate about helping others; and is committed to her education. Abby was inspired to investigate if Essential Oils actually inhibit bacteria growth after critically examining advertised claims of their effectiveness. After discovery of the most effective Essential Oil in her study, she would like to further test its potential to stop specific bacteria strains from growing. Abigail encourages others to study and experiment with topics of great interest to them and to ensure they have done a lot of research on the topic so that you can be as precise as possible. Abby Stanton is excited to start high school and is interested in perusing science as a career, perhaps in the medical field where she can find a balance between working with, and helping people, and continuing to explore the scientific method through experimentation. |

The properties of Cassia, Tee Tree and Oregano oils were tested over six days to determine bacteria growth. Effective antibacterial properties of Essential Oils could improve the health of users and could potentially lessen the need for antibiotics for minor ailments. Doctors struggle with antibiotic resistant bacteria, perhaps Cassia could be the answer. |
