Biography
My name is Allison Guthrie, I am 17 years old, and I attend École Secondaire Notre Dame High School in Red Deer, Alberta. This is my first time attending the CWSF! This fall, I will be attending the University of Calgary, where I plan to focus in genetics, plant biology, biochemistry, and biotechnology. Eventually, I plan to begin my career as a biologist, studying these areas and applying that knowledge towards finding solutions for human and environmental problems. I got the idea for this project from an offhand comment my teacher made, which grew in my head until I decided to set it in action. I feel that understanding psychological biases is extremely important, as it allows us to understand our own actions and the actions of others, and thus be better able to interact with others in empathetic, meaningful ways. In my free time, I enjoy reading, making art, and singing with the Ihana Youth Choir.

Abstract:Can a person give an honest statement of their controversial beliefs when they feel like they might be judged or accountable to those beliefs? 250 people were given the same survey asking for their opinions on controversial statements regarding gender roles. Half were given the survey by an anonymous ballot, half were given a face-to-face interview survey, and the answers were compared using statistical analysis.
