Biographie
My name is Logan Collins, and I am a Grade 12 student at Riverview Rural High School in Cape Breton, NS. This September, I will enter the Bachelor of Engineering program at Cape Breton University. My ultimate goal is to develop solutions to the climate change crisis, which is what my project aims to do. In my fourth and final year of science fair, I realize the positive impact it has on young and curious minds. My message to future CWSF finalists: enjoy this opportunity to answer the questions the world needs you to ask, and develop a sense of pride in your scientific and academic accomplishments. This year, my project focuses on the future impacts climate change will have on my community in Sydney, NS, as it relates to temperature and sea-level rise. It is important to predict these impacts, as our window is closing on the last opportunity to save our planet from catastrophic climate change. My hope is that my project will serve as a wake up call to my community that climate change is real, and that we must act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Sommaire:My project examined how my community's climate has changed, and will continue to do so if we don’t do something to slow climate change. Using 50 years of historical data for temperature and tide level, I developed a model that predicted significant past and future increases in temperature and tides in Sydney, NS. These changes may leave much of my hometown uncomfortably hot and underwater.
