Saabir - Hello! My name is Saabir Yousuf, and I live in Saskatoon, SK. I am in grade 8 and attend Greystone Heights Elementary. I attend that SAGE program at my school. This is a special program, catered to academically gifted students. We do a lot of project-based learning in SAGE. I love science, as it is my favourite subject in school. one of my biggest hobbies is playing the piano. I love learning the instrument and I love playing music. Being able to participate in the CWSF is truly a privilege. When starting this project, we would have never thought we could have the chance to be entered into such a prestigious competition. We love innovating, and we wanted to find solutions to global issues. Our idea for the desalination plant that started off as a school project now grew into something we are truly passionate about. we'd love to continue the work with our innovation, as it is still very much in its infancy. Being able to partner up with the University of Saskatoon to further develop it would be amazing. To anyone who loves science and wants to share an idea with the world, go ahead and do it! | Kevin - My name is Kevin Liu. I was born in Beijing and moved to Canada in 2013. I currently attend Greystone Heights School in Saskatoon. My sole interests are with science. I have a passion for engineering and designing nonsense machines; the former was thoroughly demonstrated when I disassembled an air conditioner with a screwdriver on my first day of kindergarten. My kindergarten teachers reacted like any sane person and questioned what my parents taught me at home. Ever since my umbilical cord was cut off, I knew deep inside that I wanted to become a scientist, and yet here I am designing and making 3D models of water purification plants and rocket engines, which by the way is my only hobby. I love to do what I do but I rarely have time for it because of my horrible time managements skills, which is probably the reason for the poor quality of my project. Speaking of my project, it is about designing (from scratch) an economically feasible desalination plant to unlock the potentials of the ocean and provide freshwater for the entire world with an ingenious small-scale design. My partner and I hope that our invention will change the world. |

Challenge: | Innovation | Category: | Junior | Region: | Saskatoon | City: | Saskatoon, SK | School: | Greystone Heights | Abstract: | For the last few centuries, the human population has grown so much that the natural water cycle is having trouble providing everyone with enough water. But we have a solution. We've invented a machine completely from scratch that will solve this crisis by converting seawater into freshwater efficiently while being cheaper and easier to implement than ever. We hope our invention will change the world. |
