| Celina McLeod Flies' Eyes and DNA
Division: | Biotechnologie | Catégorie: | Junior | Région: | Bluewater | Ville: | Tara, ON | École: | Arran-Tara E.S. | Sommaire: | This experiment examined whether differences in eye colour between wild and white-eyed Drosophila melanogaster occur due to DNA differences. Gel electrophoresis was used to study the DNA samples of the two types of Drosophila. It was found that white-eyed Drosophila have an insertion of DNA called Doc retrotransposon. This proved that one could differentiate between various organisms within a species by looking at their DNA. |
