| Kenny - My name is Kenny Martens. There are six people in my family I have three sisters, a mom and a dad. I live on a poultry farm in Abbotsfor B.C. I enjoy sports, especially hockey. I play the piano and the saxiphone. I have a dirt bike and like to ride on our property. I like to travel and see other places in Canada. I enjoy nature and special fishing trips with my father. He likes to teach us kids about the world around us and facinating things about nature. I heard my father talking about how he could come up with ways to reduce costs on our poultry farm. He has looked at alternate energy systems to heat the barn and reduce heating costs. That is why I came up with the the idea of developing a anerobic methane digester. So maybe we can take this a step further and build a full scale one on our farm and reduce our farm heating costs and also reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in the process. | | Scott - My name is Scott Yargeau and I’m in grade seven at Barrowtown Elementary School in Abbotsford, British Columbia. I volunteer for a lot of school activities including our school basketball team, volleyball team, and coming up soon, the track and field team. As you can see, I enjoy sports, a lot! I also volunteer for various jobs around the school including cleaning the hallways and cleaning the attic. The only community activity I do is cross-country running, a four round series that I do annually. My favourite hobby is supercross/motocross. I do one series called Future West Arenacross, which takes place every year at the Chilliwack Heritage Park. I also like drama a lot, and currently I’m playing a star role in a play called the Granny Awards. I don’t really have any plans quite yet on what I want to pursue in my post secondary years. School and the grades I achieve are very important to me, so I intend on going to university. In the past two terms I have achieved straight A’s. My biggest achievement so far is a US Honda dirtbike commercial, which I starred in with the best supercross rider of all time, Jeremy McGrath. |

The anaerobic process begins when manure (or any other organic material) is heated in an oxygen free enviroment. After five days of anaerobic digestion, it produced a methane rich biogas that could be burned in a clear flame. This process can be used to effectively reduce farmer’s fuel prices. |
