My project is about building a prototype device that detects water pollution using laser light from a cheap laser pointer. The pollution detector utilizes a physical principle of light scattering off small particles. To make detection automatic, a cheap web camera connected to a computer takes an image of scattered light. I developed a software program that analyzes the image and decides whether to trigger a pollution alarm. In the future the device will be expanded to detect pollution in air. The device should be easy to miniaturize. I think it will be helpful for pollution detection in many places.
