In our experiment, we wanted to find an efficient way to speed up the biodegrading rate of compost using staple household materials. We had four variables- sugar, salt, vinegar and beer. Each variable was kept in a separate container which held an identical compost mixture with the variable layered in. We took the temperature once a week for six weeks. On the last day of testing, we weighed the composted matter in each container separately. Our results showed that sugar sped up the composting process the most, and salt the least.
