CWSF 2011 - Toronto, Ontario

Print/Download as PDF

My name is Emilie Leneveu. I am 13 years old and attend Marc Garneau Secondary School in Trenton Ontario. I love mathematics and the sciences. I participate in several extracurricular activities such as piano, sports (i.e. Volleyball and basketball) and theatre. I hope to continue to do well academically and later go on to University. When I am older I wish to be a mathematics or science teacher, but there is also the possibility of becoming a marine biologist. I am excited and honoured to be a finalist at the Canada Wide Science Fair for a second year.

Heads or Tails/Pile ou face
City:Quinte West, ON
School:École secondaire publique Marc-Garneau
Abstract:Surely, you have coined the term heads or tails, but have you looked at the game in a mathematical way? Is it truly a fair game? Perhaps, but how can the odds be altered in our favour? How about rolling dice? Are odds always the same? If you have answered yes to these questions, prepare to be surprised and enter the world of non-transitivity!
