I am 13 years old and in grade 8 at the St.Lawrence Academy in Lyn, Ontario. In my spare time I enjoy constructing electrical devices eg. electrical circuits. I also like to construct mechanical and robotical devices. I enjoy all my different classes at school, especially math and phys. ed. If I go to university I would like to take classes in mechanical and electrical engineering. This is my second time participating in my regional and Canada wide science fair.

Treading on Thin Ice
Region:Rideau-St. Lawrence
City:Front of Yonge, ON
School:St. Lawrence Academy
Abstract:Every year, Canadians are injured from slip and fall accidents that occur on ice. Currently, shoes designed to provide more traction on ice are tested using methods that do not simulate human gait. I designed a method to simulate the heel strike, the phase of gait when most slips occur. This was used to test the slipping of shoes on ice.
