Rhianna - Tansi. My name is Rhianna Spence and I am from Nisichawayasik Cree Nation, Manitoba. I attend Otetiskiwin Elementary School and I am 12 years old. I live in a beautiful nation surrounded by three rivers called "Where the Three Rivers Meet". My hobbies are singing, listening to music, hanging out with friends and sleeping. My interests are learning about the human body and space. My career plans are to become an artist because I love drawing. I got the inspiration for this project from my partners' granny Angela. My plans for further investigation is to find out more about the ingredients in the modern medicine and why those ingredients cause plants to grow. I would advise other students doing a project to: 1. Put a lot of effort into it. 2. Work very hard; and 3. Make sure you have recorded a lot into your log booklet.
Lexie - Tansi. My name is Lexie Joos and I am 12 years old. I am a grade 7 student at Otetiskiwin Elementary School in Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, Nelson House, Manitoba. My hobbies are fishing, ski-doing, quadding and being with my friends. My interests are hunting and harvesting. My career plans are to be a medical doctor. I got my inspiration from my granny Angela who has taught me how to pick traditional medicines, where to find them and how to take the plants I am investigating. I want to investigate in more depth the effects the modern over-the-counter medicines on living things including microorganisms versus traditional medicines. My advice to students is to collect a lot of data, make graphs, pictures and repeat your project over and over again.

Traditional Medicines vs. Modern Medicines on Germination of Vigna radiata
City:Nelson House, MB
School:Otetiskewin Kiskinwamahtowekamik
Abstract:Our project investigates how traditional medicines and modern medicines affect mung bean growth. Solutions with different strengths of sweet flag (wikis), wild mint, children's Advil and Motrin were applied to the beans and left to grow at two different temperatures, 5˚C and 21˚C. After four days, we saw that the beans that grew the most were the ones that were exposed to modern medicines.
