My name is Adrain Howie, I'm 15 years old and I live in Halifax Nova Scotia. I'm in grade 9 at St Agnes Junior High. I have lived in Halifax most of my life except for grades 5 and 6, when I lived in Ottawa. My favourite sport is tennis; I play it all year round. I am active in my community and in my church. I did the regional science fair for three years now, and this is the second time going to nationals.

Sink The CO2
Division:Engineering & Computing Sciences / Environmental Innovation
City:Halifax, NS
School:St. Agnes School
Abstract:Aquatic Ecosystems contain billions of phytoplankton, microscopic plants that are the base of aquatic food chains. These tiny plants have the ability to sequester CO2 from the environment. Factors that affect CO2 sequestration include temperature and species of algae. The design for these experiments included measuring the CO2 Sequestration of five species of unicellular algae, Isochrysis, Pavlova, Tetraselmis, Chlorella, and Scenedesmus, under different temperatures.
