I am a grade 8 student in French Immersion at Saint Andrew Junior School. I play tuba in the school concert band, and trumpet in the jazz band. In my free time, I like to read, knit, bake, and play piano. I like math and science, and I enjoy solving problems. When I'm older, I'd like to be either an engineer, an architect, or a teacher. I got the inspiration for my project after hearing on the news about the negative effects of road salt on cars, vegetation, and aquatic life. I wanted to find a solution to that problem. As a further investigation, I'd like to test the effects of sugar on grass and other common vegetation. My advice to other students thinking about doing a project would be to find something you're curious about, and to not stop until you've found out what you want to know.

Abstract:J'ai trouvé une façon de fondre la glace sur les rues avec une meilleure impacte sur l'environnement et les autos que le sel. Par tester le taux de fondre la glace et le niveau de corrosivité, j'ai conclu qu'une combinaison de sel et sucre à un taux de 2:1 est presque aussi effective à fondre la glace que le sel, et dramatiquement moins corrosive.
