My name is Brandan Ranjith, and this is my first year at the Canada Wide Science Fair. I am currently living in Belleville Ontario, and attend Albert College. My favourite subject in school definitely includes science, although I also really enjoy the arts. As a hobby, I love to play the flute in local competitions and in our school band, and also taking pictures! Sports haven't always been my favourite thing in the world, but I could play a game of badminton, squash, or volleyball any day! I got the inspiration for this project during the British Petroleum Oil Spill in 2010. I completed another Science Fair experiment closer to the date of the spill, but this project expands greater on a different aspect of the topic. If I was to give someone advice about doing a project, it would be to start as soon as possible because time is sensitive! For a further investigation to my project on how oil affects the oxygen production and growth rates of aquatic plants, I am interested to see how different the results would be if the plants I tested were directly in contact with oil, rather than just inundating the water's surface.

Oil: Floral Suffocation
Ville:Belleville, ON
École:Albert College
Sommaire:This project explores the affects of oil on fresh water aquatic plants. During the course of the experiment, the main focus of was to monitor the oxygen production, and growth rate of uncontaminated trials, and compare them to contaminated (contamination levels varied per trial.) Conclusively, the final results were obtained after a two-week time period to raise awareness and the seriousness of today's water pollution.
