Biography
My name is Jessica Stewart. I am 16 years old, in grade 11 and attend Semiahmoo Secondary School in BC where I am a part of the International Baccalaureate program. I love science and I hope to pursue it in my post secondary education and possibly become a chemical engineer. In my spare time I play the piano and lots of sports, such as soccer, field hockey and skiing. I love to sing and to act and have been in multiple school productions. I also love to read and my favorite books include: The Other Hand and The Golden Compass. At school I am the head of the Model United Nations club and at the conference this year in Vancouver I received an honorable mention award. After high school I plan to attend university but would also love to travel to New Zealand and/or Africa.

Abstract:This experiment was done with the purpose of discovering whether the independent variables: tide, water depth, ocean substrate, whether the water is from the surface or not, and location affect the level of hydrocarbons in the ocean. It specifically investigated the levels of hydrocarbons as a measure of the crude oil levels in the ocean water in the Vancouver area using a turbidity meter.
