Abstract:This experiment tested the effect of background music on student’s ability to memorize. Short term recall was better on average with baroque (+47%), jazz (+32%), or rock (+27%) music than without. Baroque music was less distracting than rock or jazz, and its use could cost-effectively enhance learning and work environments.
