Novel Proteinaceous Compounds as Disease Determinants in Ascochyta rabiei - chic
Division:Earth & Environmental Sciences
Category:Intermediate
Region:Saskatoon
City:Saskatoon, SK
School:Evan Hardy Collegiate, École Lakeview School
Abstract:To establish the production of phytotoxin in early pathogenesis, spore germination fluid (SGF) of Ascochyta rabiei was collected from thin film of inoculum on the leaf surface of susceptible chickpea line. The results show that A. rabiei produces a host-specific proteinaceious phytotoxin in SGF. Furthermore, surface protein isolated from leaf surface wash of resistant line showed defensive nature by inhibiting spore germination in compatible interaction.
