James - I am James McKay. I play basketball and volleyball, plan to become an engineer, and like to play games with physical activity in my spare time. The inspiration for my project came from the long list of warnings on the back of a popular janitor's cleaning solution, known as Swish. Tyler and I thought it was terrible how dangerous a chemical our janitors use to clean our tables and chairs, so we wanted to find a safer way to kill common bacteria. Also, Tyler and I wanted to help the environment in a way that nearly everyone can participate in. We do not currently have plans for further investigations, although I have been very curious about some extensions such as finding out what in lemons kills bacteria. Advice I would give to other students thinking about doing a project is to try to find a very common problem that is relative to many people, and a simple enough experiment that the common person can understand not only what you did, but also what you accomplished.
Tyler - I live in a rural town. I like to enjoy the outdoors. Earlier this year i went on a trip to our capital, Ottawa. It was a lot of fun and i met kids from around the country. My favorite food is hot dogs. I like to swim and am a lifeguard at the local pool. I am also in band at NACI. We wanted to do our project to help the earth and not use harsh chemicals. We have added some extensions and are working to improve before the fair. My partner is James and we think that every one should work in pairs it made it a lot more fun having a partner.

Sommaire:For our experiment we researched household bacteria killers. The issue that we are concerned with is that janitors use environmentally and physically harmful chemicals everyday to clean off the surface’s we spend hours touching every day. Many chemical cleaners have also proven to cause adverse effect on a person’s health over an extended period of time. Natural solutions could help the environment and people’s health.
