I am 13 and currently attend the St. Lawrence Academy in Prescott, Ontario. This is my first Canada Wide Science Fair. Some of my hobbies include swimming and playing the piano. The purpose of my project was to determine which finger was the most accurate when timing with a stopwatch. I came up with my project because I am a competitive swimmer. One day when I was at a meet, I noticed that all of the officials assigned to my lane were using a different finger to time with. Something I was thinking of doing with the results from my project was to send them to the Ontario Swimming Officials Association so that they could inform their timers of the best finger to use to get the most accurate results for their swimmers. The advice I would give to a student thinking about doing a project is to do as many trials as possible if you are doing a project that involves an experiment. |

The participants were given a stopwatch and were instructed to press start or stop according to the correct light. I used an Ipad app called 'traffic light' as my stimulus. The data was then recorded, collected, and analyzed. I determined that the right middle finger was the most accurate. |
