Biographie
I am a 16 year old, grade 11 student at CDCI West. I first became involved in science fairs in grade 7 and am excited to be a first time participant at a national level. My interests include visual arts, computer animation, and gymnastics, yet my passion is in biological and medical sciences. I would describe myself as a dedicated student, and have won multiple awards in my early high school years. Being selected as one of the 2014 Canada Wide Science Fair participants from my regional fair was a personal best accomplishment for me, and my experience is a great example of how we should never give up on our dreams. Meeting other students who have a passion for science has been an inspiration for me and has fueled my own interest to think of innovative research ideas. My best advice to other students who dream of going to the CWSF is to learn all you can about science fairs, think of ideas in a novel way, work hard, and never give up on your goals. I will be back in the lab this summer and am excited about learning more and continuing with my involvement in science fairs!

Evaluating Therapeutic Potential of Lactobacillus and Aspartame on Cancer Cells
Défi:Santé
Catégorie:Sénior
Région:Peterborough
Ville:Cobourg, ON
École:Cobourg District C.I. West
Sommaire:This experiment tested the effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria and aspartame on cervical and kidney cancer cells. A combination of Lactobacillus bacterial products and a low concentration of aspartame was more effective at causing cell death than either product by itself; possibly opening up a new area of targeted cancer therapy with reduced side effects.
